Бібліотека як мішень: хроніка втрат національної та університетської бібліотеки Боснії і Герцеговини

Мета статті – розглянути обставини спалення Національної та університетської бібліотеки Боснії і Герцеговини під час Боснійської війни та особливості її повоєнного відновлення і функціонування у контексті осмислення ролі та цінності національної бібліотеки задля підтримки національної ідентичності.
Методи дослідження базуються на загальнонаукових принципах історизму, цілісності, об’єктивності, наступності, системного, міждисциплінарного та інформаційного підходів. Досягнення мети здійснювалося за допомогою системи загальнонаукових і спеціальних методів: теоретичних (аналіз, синтез, абстрагування, пояснення, узагальнення), емпіричних (опис, порівняння, спостереження), історико-порівняльного, проблемно-хронологічного, виявлення і аналізу джерел та інших.
Наукова новизна. Вперше в українському бібліотекознавстві запропоновано на прикладі обставин спалення і відновлення Національної та університетської бібліотеки Боснії і Герцеговини розглянути роль і цінність національної бібліотеки задля підтримки національної ідентичності.
Основні висновки. Руйнування Національної та університетської бібліотеки Боснії і Герцеговини стало найбільшою і непоправною втратою та символом однієї з головних цілей війни – знищення культурної самобутності суспільства. Напад на установу стався попри те, що будівлю було ознаковано міжнародною пам’яткоохоронною емблемою. Відновлення бібліотеки розглядалося як цінний внесок у діалог між різними культурами та націями у цій країні з багатовіковими традиціями толерантності і плюралізму. Національна та університетська бібліотека Боснії і Герцеговини дотепер очікує на остаточне врегулювання правового і фінансового статусу, забезпечення довгострокової стабільності і державної підтримки. Трагічна доля цієї бібліотеки порушує важливі питання щодо понять пам’яті, ідентичності, культури та плюралізму.
